General Partner, San FranciscoMathias Schilling is co-founder and Managing Partner of e.ventures. Mathias currently oversees the firms’ investments in Groupon, Angie’s List, Sonos, Yume Networks, AppFolio, Eucalyptus, Xango, and many others. Mathias started his career at Bertelsmann, Europe’s largest media company, working on a number of M&A and joint venture transactions including AOL Studios, Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com and CompuServe. In 1997 he joined the founding team to create the venture capital firm BV Capital (today known as e.ventures) and became its Managing Partner in 2004.
Mathias was born and raised in Switzerland and is a German citizen. He holds a Master in Finance from St. Gallen University, one of Europe's leading business schools. Mathias is a Director of the Dignity Fund and serves on the Board of the Discovery Museum in San Francisco.

General Partner, San FranciscoThomas Gieselmann is a co-founder and General Partner of e.ventures. He currently serves on the board of NGINX, Playhaven, Pulse News (Alphonsolabs) and Gamersfirst. Tom’s specialties are technology driven startups at the cross-section of consumer Internet and its underlying software. Within this data-driven industry Tom has created a unique way of deal sourcing, using large amounts of data on user streams, startup growth rates and viral attention of Internet and mobile startups.
At the age of 14, Thomas founded his first media company, specializing in publishing shopping guides and marketing distribution, which he successfully sold. Thomas started his career building Europe's first multimedia online service. As part of the initial team behind AOL Europe, a joint venture between America Online and Bertelsmann, Europe's largest media company, Thomas started and developed the aol.de portal.
General Partner, HamburgAndreas Haug has started several digital businesses as an entrepreneur and has invested in startups as a business angel for years. He has broad experience in setting up, expanding and restructuring Internet and other media companies.
Andreas is the founder of infoMedia Group, which he sold to Thyssen Telecom and a cofounder of diligenZ Management Consulting. Previously, he worked in media for Bertelsmann AG.

General Partner, Hamburg and BerlinChristian joined the firm in the San Francisco office in March 2003. He has since moved back to Europe where is working out of the Hamburg and Berlin offices, leading European Internet Consumer investments. He holds a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and previously worked with management consulting firms in Paris and Berlin.
Christian also held various research positions at the Daimler Chrysler Research Center India in Bangalore and the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois. Christian is frequently quoted in the media as an expert on Venture Capital by key publications such as Spiegel Online and FAZ.
Partner, San FranciscoJan is the founding partner of BV Capital / eVentures, angel investor, serial entrepreneur and new media pioneer with international reputation. He has founded several successful Internet ventures and in the process created more than $15 billion in value. Jan has a long history in developing, managing and operating Internet, telecommunications and media service companies, including an early involvement in the licensing process for the digital mobile network in Europe and the emerging value-added services market. In the early 90′s, Jan and his team created one of the world’s first consumer online services in Germany, and subsequently founded and managed AOL Europe.
In 1997, he moved to California where he set up the BV Capital venture funds, which grew to the current five-fund global VC, renamed as e.ventures. In 2000, the Wall Street Journal named Jan “one of the most influential European technology financiers on either side of the Atlantic.”

Partner, Tokyo and BeijingAkio was formerly the head of venture investment program for Adobe in Asia and was responsible for Adobe's corporate venture investment in Greater China, Japan, and India. Previous to Adobe, Akio held the position of CTO for Macromedia Japan working as part of the local management team as well as the position of Technology Advisor to the CEO for Macromedia Inc. at the US headquarters advising the CEO on investment and M&A strategies in Asia.
Akio holds a Master's degree from the University of British Columbia, Canada and received the Governor General's Gold Medal for graduating at the head of his class.
Partner, Sao PauloAnderson Thees is a Founding Partner of Redpoint e.ventures, focused exclusively in Latin America. Before co-founding Redpoint e.ventures, Anderson was CEO of Apontador, the leading local search website and geolocation webservices provider in Brazil. Prior to Apontador, Anderson was Investment Principal at Naspers/MIH, responsible for Latin America where he invested in leading companies like BuscaPe and Movile, and before that at Eccelera, a local venture capital fund. Early in his career, he worked as software developer both in Brazil and Switzerland.
Anderson received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Campinas and a M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management.
Operating Partner, HamburgMaren has been our Chief Financial Officer for more than ten years. Prior to joining the team, she most recently served as Chief Financial Officer of eGroups Europe GmbH in Germany and was responsible for the organizational and financial development of the European operations. Before she joined eGroups, Maren was head controller at AOL Bertelsmann Online, where she developed the controlling systems for sales and marketing. Maren started her career as controlling manager at Vereins & Westbank AG.
Venture Partner, San FranciscoCharles is a Venture Partner focused on early stage mobile, consumer internet and software opportunities; he is also Chief Operating Officer at PlayHaven (an e.ventures' portfolio company.)
Prior to joining e.ventures, Charles was Head of Mobile Application Partnerships at Google, where he led mobile apps strategy and business development for the display advertising business. Prior to its acquisition by Google, he led games business development for AdMob. Charles was previously an early employee at PaymentWall (formerly known as Boomerang Networks) and an associate at TriplePoint Capital, where he worked on investments in Acclaim Games (Playdom/Disney), Chegg, Facebook and TwoFish (LiveGamer). Charles began his career in public equities investing and technology M&A.
Charles holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota.

Chairman of the Advisory BoardDr. Hillebrand is member of the Executive Board of the Otto Group since 1999. He is responsible for the company's major fields of Corporate Strategy, E-Commerce and Business Intelligence. This includes the more than 100 online shops of the Group’s multichannel retailers like MyToys, the pure online players such as Limango, Mirapodo, Quelle.de and the Shopping24 group, as well as corporate venture activities with a three-digit million investment.
He holds a Masters degree in Economics and Organizational Sciences and held various functions as an officer in the German army, including a position at the Marketing Institute of the University of the German army, Hamburg. After obtaining a PHD in Business, he joined the Otto Group in 1990.

Controlling, HamburgAnja has been a member of the team for more than ten years. Before joining BV e.ventures in 2002 as Financial Administrator, Anja was an Account Manager at GOP-Varieté – the biggest event lieu in East Westfalia, Germany. There she was responsible for monetary transactions, accounting, audit preparation, data back-ups, HR administration and payroll-related tasks. She has always been drawn to travel and has lived and worked in Byron Bay (Australia), Chicago (US), and Berlin (Germany).
Vice President, San FranciscoBrendan Wales joined e.ventures in March of 2012. He focuses on early-stage and growth investments in companies across a variety of sectors including consumer internet, software as a service, and developer tools.
Brendan has worked on e.ventures' investments in Munchery, Segment, When I Work, Shutl (acquired by ebay), Spothero, Trippy, Soldsie, Nativo and BackOps and is also actively involved with NGINX, Upsight, and Housecall. As a part of the e.ventures team that uses big data for deal sourcing, Brendan has been closely involved in the firm’s investments utilizing in-house technology built to discover growing internet enabled companies.
Brendan previously worked at Launch Capital and 500 Startups backed ZOZI, a leading SAAS booking platform for SMB Tour and Activity Providers. Brendan worked across various business units first starting out in sales, then moving into business development, followed by marketing and product work on their Local Experience and Gear lines of business.
Brendan earned a B.A. in Finance from the University of Georgia.

Controlling, San FranciscoDoro rejoined BV e.ventures in 2012 as a Senior Controller, supporting our finance team in reporting and accounting. She has been part of the BV family for over twelve years and held various positions such as Office Manager, Executive Assistant and Controller. Doro successfully established her own cupcake company in San Francisco called sweetiecups before returning to BV e.ventures on a part time basis.
Doro started her career as a Human Resources Administrator at Bertelsmann Headquarters in Guetersloh,Germany.
Associate, Hamburg and BerlinBenedikt is an associate at e.ventures Europe. Prior to entering the venture capital industry, Benedikt worked as a consultant in a major strategy-consulting firm, advising companies in the pharmaceutical, industrial goods and financial servicesindustries.
For his doctoral research on the irrational aspects of economic value creation, Benedikt was awarded a Ph.D. “Summa Cum Laude” from EBS University Wiesbaden. Prior to his doctorate, Benedikt studied Economics and Management at the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, as well as the University of Munich where he finished among the top three graduates of his class. He founded his first start-up in High School, and was the youngest exhibiting entrepreneur at the “Systems 2001”.
With a passion for writing, Benedikt is also a published author. His latest book about management and innovation-culture, is due to be published by Random House in October, 2013.
Prior to supporting e.ventures, Elena has gained three years of working experience at Axel Springer AG in Germany where she worked in International Business Development. Elena has also worked in M&A in Investment Banking department of Morgan Stanley and Corporate Restructuring department of Roland Berger.
Elena holds a Magister degree in Corporate Finance of Higher School of Economics in Moscow as well as a Master degree in Economics and Management Science of Humboldt University in Berlin.
Partner, Tokyo and BeijingHirofumi was formerly co-founder and COO of CA Mobile, the leading mobile media, content, commerce and advertisement company in Japan. Hirofumi first began building mobile sites in 1999 when he was still a graduate student. He joined CA Mobile in 2000 as the starting employee and oversaw its revenue growth from almost 0 to 135 million USD in seven years. As the COO of the company, Hirofumi managed the company operation with over 300 employees. Having launched over 100 mobile services (including "NewsCafe" the largest news aggregator in Japan) and acquired over 10 million mobile subscribers, Hirofumi possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience concerning mobile service development and monetization.
Hirofumi is recognized as the pioneer of the "off-deck" mobile business model in Japan. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science and Master's in Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Tokyo.
Accounting, HamburgJan supports e.ventures' financial team as Senior Accountant in our Hamburg office.
He joined e.ventures from the Otto Group and is mainly responsible for financial statements and consolidation of all group entities. After starting his career as a trainee at the Otto Group, he gained experience in accounting and controlling in various positions within the Otto Group. Jan is Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Associate, San FranciscoPrior to joining e.ventures, Jett worked at Fung Capital USA, where he focused on investment opportunities in e-commerce. Jett began his career at Cambridge Associates where he worked with institutional investors to structure private equity and venture capital portfolios. He has also worked at Palantir Technologies, and at Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe LLP, where he counseled technology start-ups.
Jett holds a B.A., with distinction, from Stanford University, and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
Vice President, HamburgJonathan supports the Hamburg team as an Vice President. Before rejoining the team in Hamburg, Jonathan had been part of the firm’s San Francisco team.
Prior to joining e.ventures europe, Jonathan completed a three year trainee program at the Otto Group. There, he obtained a diverse an insightful experience in eCommerce, web development and business strategy. His duties included the rollout of a new eCommerce platform for Otto Japan in Tokyo and the creation of several web applications for the product discovery startup smatch.com.
Jonathan has a technical background holding a degree in Computer Science and Business Management. He gained additional experience studying abroad in Indonesia.
CFO, São PauloMarco is a partner at Redpoint e.ventures and supports the team as CFO. Prior to joining RPeV, Marco held positions as CFO at Movile, Apontador and NetMovies. He also worked as tax consultant at companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG and was Finance Manager at General Electric and Kyocera Wireless. In the last 5 years, Marco developed a robust experience in the Internet environment, with a strong exposure to various business models and dealing with different investors.
Marco majored in Law and Accounting and holds a MBA from Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil.
Executive Assistant and Office management, HamburgIn 2013 Martina joined the e.ventures team in Hamburg. Martina is originally from Austria and completed her Bachelor of Business Administration and hospitality management studies in the Netherlands. After her studies, Martina gained international experience in France and the U.S., before moving to Germany five years ago. Martina gathered her know-how in Office management and assistance in different consultancies in Hamburg.
Partner, Tokyo and BeijingMasashi founded Infinity e.ventures in December of 2007. His main focus is on early stage investments in the Digital Media sector. Masashi has also organized the leading Venture Conference "Infinity Ventures Summit" (formally New Industry Leaders Summit) since November of 2004. Prior to founding Infinity e.ventures, Masashi was a partner of the leading Japanese venture capital firm "Globis Capital Partners". He was responsible for early and development stage investments in the Digital Media and Software sectors and made a significant contribution to Globis Capital Partners as one of the management team.
Prior to working at Apax Globis Partners, Masashi was a management consultant for Arthur D. Little, focusing on Telecommunication, Information Technology, Media and the Electronics sector. Masashi received a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from the University of Tokyo.
Operations Manager - San FranciscoNadia comes to BV e.ventures as a seasoned administrative professional. She joined the team in January, 2012 and currently supports the managing partners in San Francisco. She also supports the finance team and manages the operational functions of the firm. Originally from Australia, Nadia began her career in retail management and then moved into a client relations role in the telecommunications industry. Nadia recently moved to the Bay Area and spends her time convincing others that Fosters is not Australian for beer.
Associate, Sao PauloNicholas is an Associate with Redpoint e.ventures, based in São Paulo. Nicholas spent a year prior to joining Redpoint e.ventures mapping the nascent Brazilian startup/VC landscape and structuring two startups. In 2010 he was a Summer Associate at DFJ-FIR, the Brazilian affiliate of American venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson. From 2005 to 2009, Nicholas was at Citi, where he structured leveraged finance transactions for Latin American companies. He first moved to Brazil in 2008. Nicholas holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and an MA in International Studies from the Lauder Institute, focused on Latin America and Portuguese. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in International Political Economy and African Studies from Georgetown University. He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, and dabbles in Swahili.
Alexandra is supporting e.ventures since 2008 and initiated deals such as Darberry (Groupon Russia) and NGINX. Currently, she organizes e.ventures’ Russian deal-flow and supports cross boarder joint-ventures within e.ventures’ international portfolio.
Previously, Alexandra gathered experience in management consulting at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants in Moscow, KPMG in Frankfurt and Theron Business Advisors in Cologne.
